Itopride HCl (SR) Pellets
Itopride hydrochloride is mainly used for treating gastrointestinal disorders, specifically functional dysfunction and gastritis. Its mechanism of action involves a prokinetic agent that stimulates gastric and intestinal motility, enhancing intestinal motility. Hence, it stops the amount of dopamine D2 receptors that inhibit acetylcholinesterase, which increases acetylcholine concentration for smooth muscle contraction.
It is usually well absorbed orally and starts to act relatively quickly, so it’s good for reducing symptoms. The common side effects are abdominal pain, headache, and dizziness. These side effects can generally be tolerated.
Itopride HCl is not recommended in patients who have known hypersensitivity to the drug. It is also not advised with caution in patients with a history of epilepsy or Parkinson’s disease because of its activated effects. However, overall, Itopride HCl is an excellent approach for functional gastrointestinal disorders that enhance the quality of life by providing palliation.
Itopride is a prokinetic medicine. The Itopride HCI compound works in a part of the brain that helps to control inflammation. It also acts on the upper digestive system to increase stomach and intestinal moisture, allowing food to pass through the stomach faster.
Since Itopride lacks safety data, it should be avoided in pregnancy or even in a woman suspected to be pregnant until the risk-benefit outweighs. This means discussing with your doctor about whether you can take itopride during pregnancy or not.
Itopride is advised to be taken thrice a day before meals. The duration of therapy would depend on the response of the patient towards the therapy. The exact dose and duration would be decided by your doctor depending on individual needs and response.
Itopride and its metabolites are primarily excreted through the kidneys. Thus, people with any kidney issues should be careful while taking Itopride. Tests for kidney functions are needed regularly and in case of side effects concerning kidneys (creatinine increased), the medicine is usually stopped or the dose is decreased.
Itopride should be avoided in patients where increased gastrointestinal movements are seen. In patients with mechanical obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract or perforation of the gastrointestinal tract, perforation of the gastrointestinal bleeding is injurious.
Food does not affect the mechanism of action of Itopride. This drug is commonly advised to be taken before meals.
