Esomeprazole Magnesium Pellets – The pellet medicines are made of the drug named Esomeprazole that is used in the treatment for acidity, gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux) and peptic ulcer disease. Esomeprazole reduces the stomach acid by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme (H+/K+ ATPase or gastric proton pump) and this is located in the stomach wall cells that are involved in the release of gastric acid secretion, causing tissue damage in the food pipe, stomach, and duodenum. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It operates by lowering the level of acid in the stomach that assists in the relief of acid-related indigestion as well as heartburn.
Esomeprazole Magnesium Pellets is effective in healing erosive esophagitis (inflammation of the food pipe), symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Esomeprazole acts by irreversibly inhibiting the proton pump gate (which releases stomach acid). Esomeprazole may be prescribed to all ages, including special populations such as the elderly, pregnant and lactating women, and patients with kidney and liver disease. In general, no adjustment in dosage is needed for these populations.
Esomeprazole Magnesium Pellets may also be prescribed to prevent stomach ulcers due to some medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Take it in the same dose and duration as directed by your physician. It is best taken on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning or at least 1 hour before food. Keep taking the medication even if your symptoms go away until the doctor advises you to stop. If you are on this medication for an extended period of time, the doctor may perform periodic tests to monitor your levels of magnesium, which can drop with this medication.
