Levofloxacin & Ambroxol Tablets: Ambroxol + Levofloxacin falls under a category of medication known as ‘respiratory stimulants’ (cough/sputum thinner) that is mainly employed in the treatment of acute and chronic respiratory infections with excess mucus. Acute respiratory infections are initially characterized by a dry, irritating cough, hoarseness in laryngitis (inflammation of the voice box), or chest burning caused by bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes). Then, wet mucus is formed, and persistent coughing up of sputum. Dry, irritating cough and wet cough with mucus are seen in chronic respiratory conditions.
Ambroxol + Levofloxacin is a combination of two drugs: Ambroxol (thins thick cough) and Levofloxacin (antibiotic). Ambroxol is a mucolytic that loosens and thins mucus (phlegm), so it is easy to cough. Levofloxacin is in the class of antibiotic drugs that inhibit bacterial growth by stopping the two enzymes that are necessary for bacterial cell development. Consequently, bacterial cells cannot grow and multiply. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, i.e., it inhibits the growth of bacteria but may not kill them. The combination with Ambroxol increases levofloxacin’s antibacterial effect.
Medical Benefits:
- Ambroxol and Levofloxacin are a group of medications known as ‘respiratory stimulants’ mainly employed to treat acute and chronic respiratory infections due to excessive mucus.
- Ambroxol is an expectorant that liquefies and loosens the mucus (phlegm), thus facilitating its expulsion by coughing.
- Levofloxacin falls into a group of antibiotic drugs that inhibit the growth of bacteria by blocking the action of two enzymes necessary for bacterial cell growth.
- It inhibits the growth of bacteria but does not kill them. The addition of ambroxol boosts the antibacterial action of levofloxacin.
Uses:
- Ambroxol + Levofloxacin is employed in the treatment of acute and chronic bacterial infections of the respiratory tract with excessive mucus, including pneumonia, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
- Ambroxol + Levofloxacin loosens and thins mucus in the airways, making it simple to cough up and make breathing easier in respiratory disorders.
- By removing mucus from the airways, Ambroxol + levofloxacin relieves congestion in the chest and helps to stop chronic coughing caused by respiratory infections.
